Penfolds St Henri Shiraz
The deep ruby St. Henri is nearly opaque. Leather and smoky Asian spice fill the nose, with blackberry jam, blackcurrant jam, black pepper, a floral element, and some alcoholic heat (the big wine is an unsurprising 14.5% abv). The palate adds a bacon meatiness, stewed fruit, raspberry, pomegranate, and chocolate, with touches of dried herb.

Rosemount Estate Mountain Blue Shiraz Cabernet, Mudgee
An 85% Shiraz, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon blend from Mudgee in New South Wales. On the nose, cassis and soft black fruits blend with plum and ginger spice. The palate displays intense fruit and a firm tannin backbone, with blackberry and spicy plum dominating.

Classified number 45 in the Wine Spectator’s top 100 wines of the world, the rich, concentrated nose is made up of ripe, pulpy fruits, followed by mint, spice, vanilla and black pepper. The palate is lush, with rich fruits and spices, giving a fine balance of alcohol and acidity.

Gérard Bertrand, Chateau L’Hospitalet Grand Vin Rouge
A voluptuous and attractive wine. Shiny ruby colour, a powerful nose, dominated by spicy flavours and red fruit notes (strawberries). In the mouth, structure is very refined with silky tannins and same aromas as in the nose, with those of red berries. Barrel ageing of 12 to 16 months in new French barrels before final blending. Extremely elegant and harmonious, this wine can be enjoyed right now and bodes a promising future. To be discovered with rib of beef, grilled with wine shoots, game: woodcock, wild duck, and boar.

Frescobaldi CastelGiocondo, Brunello di Montalcino
A fabulous wine, aged for 4 years before being released. Multi-layered aromas on a glorious nose comprise dark cherries and dried plums, overlaying first pencil-lead and stone, then tobacco leaf and spices. The palate is full, with fruit to the fore, but with power and length from well-rounded tannins.

This blend from the “Terra Rossa” strip includes grapes from the oldest planting in the Coonawarra district. The nose is a glorious blend of red berries followed by ripe black fruit notes, cloves, juniper, cedar and oak. The palate is rich, with sweet berries and licorice, chocolate and cinnamon.
